Working US Army trench periscope
Wooden trench periscope with a turnable pin on the side and a belt hook.
With this device a man could look over the edge of the trench without exposing himself to fire. It is a wooden box with an inclined mirror set at each end.
Production of these periscopes started in october 1917. 81000 pieces were delivered by the middle of the following january.
