The canvas backpack was meant to replace the fur hide ‘Tornister’ in tropical areas. It was developed from the Model 31 mountain troops backpack and proved to be very practical. From the second half of the war it was the standard ‘Marschgepäck’ of the German army. The backpack was hooked onto the Y-straps.
